OUR UNIVERSE
Bilingual education based on the British model, focused on holistic development
At El Centro Inglés Junior School, we offer a bilingual education in English based on the British educational model, where academic development is balanced with each pupil’s personal, social, and emotional growth.
Mornings begin with Assembly, a key moment to promote values, positive coexistence, a growth mindset, and socio-emotional skills—fundamental pillars of our educational project.
Learning in English and an international curriculum
Learning takes place primarily in English through subjects such as Literacy, Topic, Science, Social Science, Values, Physical Education and ICT, providing pupils with a solid foundation aligned with British curriculum standards.
Mathematics is taught using active methodologies and tools such as the abacus, fostering memory, logical reasoning, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts from an early age.
Promoting reading, creativity, and the arts
The school library and classroom libraries are essential spaces where pupils develop a love for reading in English, stimulate their imagination, and strengthen reading comprehension.
In visual arts, creativity and personal expression are encouraged, while music education plays a central role: pupils take part in the ECI Orchestra and, in Year 6 and 7, join El Centro Inglés Choir, promoting teamwork, discipline, and artistic sensitivity.
Robotics and STEM skills
Educational robotics and technology enable pupils to develop STEM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through programming, robotics, and 3D printing, preparing them for future challenges.
House System: values, coexistence, and teamwork
Our House System promotes interaction between pupils of different ages, strengthening values such as teamwork, responsibility, cooperation, and a sense of belonging in a motivating and enjoyable environment.
Commitment to the environment and sustainability
El Centro Inglés is an Eco School. Pupils actively participate in the school garden, sustainability projects, and the care of the local environment, as well as collaborating in various social campaigns, fostering genuine social and environmental awareness.
ECI Global Challenge: language immersion in the United Kingdom
In Year 6, pupils experience one of the most meaningful moments of their educational journey: the ECI Global Challenge in Wales. For two weeks, they live together in a school house while participating in a programme of academic and personal challenges that reinforce English language immersion, independence, and maturity. Many pupils choose to repeat the experience in later years.
Welsh traditions, reflecting the origins of the founder Mrs Linda Randell, are present in celebrations such as the Eisteddfod, which takes place on El Centro Inglés Day.
Extracurricular activities
The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, enabling pupils to develop sporting, musical, linguistic, drama, and technological skills, completing their holistic education.
Personalised guidance and pupil wellbeing
The Pastoral Care Programme is a key element in Junior School. It includes:
- Individualised monitoring by the form tutor
- Ongoing communication with families
- A programme based on the British PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) model
This curriculum is delivered transversally, fostering social, emotional, and independent learning skills, while ensuring pupils’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. All teaching staff receive specific training in these areas.
METHODOLOGY
At El Centro Inglés, we believe in a holistic education based on the development of competencies, problem-solving, and active learning, where each pupil is at the centre of the educational process and plays a leading role in their own learning. We create motivating environments both inside and outside the classroom, fostering engagement, independence, and a curiosity for learning.
We understand that pupils must be active participants in their teaching and learning process, working in a balanced way across concepts, procedures, and attitudes. This approach encourages the development of individual strategies, transferable skills, and a holistic, integrated assessment aligned with the principles of modern education.
We offer an enriched curriculum that extends across all areas of school life, both in the classroom and in spaces such as the dining hall, playgrounds, and complementary activities. At El Centro Inglés, every moment is an opportunity to learn, contributing to pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Our international vision is built upon an International Curriculum with a strong British educational influence, certified by Cambridge Assessment in Junior School. This educational model prepares pupils for a globalised world, equipping them with the skills needed to overcome cultural, social, and linguistic barriers, and to thrive confidently in international contexts.
We implement active and innovative methodologies that ensure meaningful learning by connecting content with experience and emotion. This approach nurtures a natural curiosity for learning, enhances motivation, and supports continuous, solid, and long-lasting progress at every stage of education.
