TUTOR COOPERATIVO

Wellbeing, Integration and Personalised Support at El Centro Inglés

At El Centro Inglés, a leading international school and the only British School in Early Years in the Bay of Cádiz, pupil wellbeing is a cornerstone of our educational model. To ensure personalised support and a holistic approach to care, we have created an innovative and distinctive role within our Pastoral Care system: the Co-Tutor.

The Co-Tutor is a unique figure at El Centro Inglés who complements the work of each group’s academic tutors, ensuring that all pupils — both new arrivals and those who have been with the school from an early age — receive personalised, close, and continuous support.

Personalised support from day one

The Co-Tutor is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of new pupils. Through a structured and ongoing approach, they help each student feel welcomed, understood, and fully included in the school community.

This is particularly important in an international school environment, where diverse cultures, languages, and personal backgrounds come together.

In addition, the role of the Peer Mentor is essential in this process, as an experienced pupil is assigned to support and guide the new student during their first weeks.

Continuous support during international programmes

One of the most distinctive aspects of this role is the support provided to pupils participating in international language programmes or academic stays abroad.

The Co-Tutor:

  • Monitors and supports the pupil’s academic and personal progress while they are abroad
  • Ensures effective communication between the family, teaching staff, and leadership team
  • Facilitates the student’s smooth reintegration into their year group upon return
  • Ensures that all international experiences positively contribute to their maturity, performance, and wellbeing

This personalised support model positions El Centro Inglés as a benchmark in international pastoral care, ensuring that no pupil feels unsupported or disoriented when taking part in educational programmes outside Spain.

Emotional wellbeing and personal development

The Co-Tutor forms part of a broader approach to wellbeing, emotional education, and global citizenship, which includes:

  • Active listening and close support
  • Positive conflict resolution
  • Social integration
  • Reinforcement of values such as respect, empathy, responsibility, and solidarity

Within an educational environment that combines academic excellence, technological innovation, international outlook, and strong human values, this role helps ensure that El Centro Inglés pupils grow into confident, happy, and well-prepared individuals, ready to thrive in a global world.
