Science and Sustainability Project at El Centro Inglés

El Centro Inglés, a British, CIS and Cambridge school, drives a Science and Sustainability Project that develops critical thinking and global citizenship within an international environment.

At El Centro Inglés, an international school, British School and the only CIS Accredited School in the Bay of Cádiz, we understand science and sustainability as essential pillars in shaping global citizens who are thoughtful, responsible, and committed to caring for the planet. Our Science and Sustainability Project is designed to spark scientific curiosity, research skills, and critical thinking through the application of the scientific method in real and meaningful contexts.

This project integrates practical and experiential activities that enable pupils to explore, experiment, and understand the world around them, developing key competencies for their personal growth and future academic pathways.

Science to think, discover, and transform

The project promotes pupils’ natural curiosity through:

  • Scientific research projects integrated into the curriculum
  • Participation in science competitions and fairs, where students present their work and learn to communicate results with rigour and creativity
  • The use of the scientific method to formulate questions, hypotheses, experiments, and conclusions
  • Activities that foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and independent problem-solving

In this way, science becomes a tool to understand the environment, make informed decisions, and develop a responsible and proactive attitude towards global challenges.

Sustainability and global citizenship: learning to care for the planet

As an international school committed to CIS and Cambridge values, we promote environmental education that encourages global responsibility and respect for the environment. The project includes:

  • A school garden, where pupils learn about sustainable agriculture, responsible consumption, and natural cycles
  • A Sustainability Classroom, a space dedicated to projects on recycling, biodiversity, renewable energy, and environmental care
  • Collaborative projects with schools in other countries, enabling pupils to share experiences, compare ecosystems, and reflect on environmental challenges from a global perspective
  • The celebration of Science and Environment Day, with workshops, exhibitions, and hands-on activities

These experiences foster a deep ecological awareness in our pupils, aligned with the international and humanistic values that define El Centro Inglés.
