Opening Borders

International education and global outlook through languages

At El Centro Inglés, a British international school and the only CIS Accredited School in its area, we firmly believe that learning foreign languages is essential in shaping global citizens who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Our language project, Opening Borders, offers a wide range of opportunities for the study, learning, use, and enjoyment of international languages, integrated progressively and coherently from the earliest educational stages.

English as a foundation, languages as added value

As an international school with a British Early Years and Cambridge curriculum, English is the language of learning across all areas. Building on this strong foundation, we broaden our pupils’ linguistic horizons by incorporating other key foreign languages.

French as a second foreign language – DELF preparation

In addition to English, our pupils study French as a second foreign language from Pre-Nursery (age 2), through a communicative and cultural approach that enables them to use the language in real-life situations.

Our aim is to bring pupils closer to the French language and culture, developing the linguistic skills needed to communicate with confidence. French is introduced from Early Years and continues through to Senior School, progressively preparing pupils for official certifications such as the DELF.

German and Chinese from Early Years: fostering a love of languages

During Early Years — a key stage within the British curriculum — pupils are also introduced to German and Chinese, taking advantage of their natural ability to acquire new sounds and linguistic structures from an early age.

  • German: pupils can develop a basic understanding of the language from Reception (age 4) to Year 4 (Primary), fostering interest and motivation to continue learning through our German School.
  • Chinese: early exposure encourages cultural awareness, curiosity, and cognitive flexibility.

We believe this is the ideal stage to nurture a love of languages, promoting a positive attitude towards linguistic and cultural learning.

A language project aligned with CIS international education

As a CIS Accredited School, El Centro Inglés aligns its language project with international standards that promote multilingualism, intercultural understanding, and global education.

Our approach to foreign languages adds significant value to teaching, strengthening pupils’ academic, cultural, and personal development, and preparing them for international studies and experiences.
